Rockin' Around

As many of you know, we've finally got some of this wonderfully slippery, slushy snow around here. And as Kade and I were driving down to visit our new little nephew* I was flipping through radio stations and much to my surprise (that I didn't remember this), there were Christmas tunes playing! Kade groaned, I laughed, and why can't there be any middle ground for Christmas music? You either love it or hate it--I've yet to meet a person who, when the holiday music starts playing, just casually nods their head or taps their foot to the beat. No squeals of excitement, no negative nancy-ing.

Anyway, just a random thought. If there are any such people out there, feel free to make yourselves known!

Around August my dad so very generously bought for us a glider he found at the DI. It was a good deal, but it was... well, a little tired.

I had already ripped off the top part when I decided I wanted to take before and after pictures. Really, it wasn't too bad--but whoever painted it white didn't do a great job getting all the bottom parts. I thought they were just super lazy but you know what? After I had put two coats on all those little spindles and mobile parts down there, I was about ready to tear my hair out and vow to never paint a glider again.

(and actually, that must have been what the last lady did... because when I took the fabric off the bottom cushion, there was hair absolutely all over, stuck inside the cushion, and it was disgusting, and it was NOT coming out. So I just tried not to think about it while I hurried and re-covered it.)

I saw that fabric at the DI and thought it was so pretty--its way more purple than pink in real life. There was about five yards of it, and even though it was $7 (which I thought was pretty steep for the DI), I bought it. Doesn't it look so good?

And even though I made the mistake of purchasing flat paint (thought I was getting such a good deal), I'm really pleased with the way it turned out. In fact, I might just have to move this to the living room so I can show it off! (I have another glider, courtesy of my generous uncle Chad, that would look perfect in the nursery.)

So yeah, fun project, but sooooooooooooooooooooooooo much more tedious than I thought it would be! Good thing I love the end result so much!

*Little Champ was born Friday, isn't he just the cutest little chunk? But since there is no SD slot in my work computer (am I so terrible to do this at work? Or just terrible that I admit it?), more pictures will have to come a little later. But I got some cute ones!
