My baby had his first birthday on Thursday! And what is crazy is suddenly he's all Mr. Big Boy now--it's like after his birthday he decided to whip out a bunch of new tricks out of nowhere! The day after his birthday he weaned himself. Out of the blue! And to think I was worried about weaning him at all... now I'm a mama without a cause. (kidding, obviously he still needs to eat. Just all real food now.)
And he's suddenly pointing at stuff? It's amazing to me how much he's picked up from us, and he's just a baby. The other night he found one of my hair-ties on the ground and was trying to put it in his hair. And yesterday at the little birthday party we had with my side of the family, he BLEW OUT HIS BIRTHDAY CANDLE. No prompting! He just sucked in and blew out.
He's a genius.
Some of the things he enjoys lately are:
- Running. everywhere! especially with a blanket over his head. He's the ghost boy.
- Jumping. This kid is fearless. Our bed is a good three and a half feet off the ground, and he'll jump off it (if we're somewhere on the ground, otherwise he'll roll off and try to land on his feet).
- Playing with balls. Basketballs, bouncy balls, basically any kind you can think of. There's hardly a moment when he doesn't have a ball in each hand.
- Hitting/smacking. He has a little toy hammer, and just this morning was smacking mom and dad on the head with it. Little stinker! He loves to smack other kids his age, particularly his cousin.
- He went from hating milk to not being able to get enough in like, six seconds. And lemme tell ya, being a milk-lover myself, having a gallon of vitamin D in the fridge at all times is not good for my lovehandles.
- He is all boy. He loves growling and hitting and running and throwing and wrestling and roughhousing with dad and the other day I even caught him dragging one of my bras around the house. And when his Nana handed him a Barbie at dinner one Sunday, he threw it to the ground and picked up a ball.
I know it's cliche to say, but really, where has this past year gone? I feel like it shouldn't be December again yet. It should be April and my baby should only barely be turning four months old. But alas, he's growing like a weed and the days are going by even faster.
