Since It's Been A While...

...naturally this post will be a photo dump!

First off, a mis-matched Millie on her way out on a chilly-ish rainy day. Isn't she just the most adorable girl you've ever seen?

My giant little brothers, bubsie and por-pie came out to visit us for a week! They took a red eye out here and like the kind, foresighted, thoughtful big sister that I am, I scheduled them a naptime that day into the week's itinerary. But like the stubborn, teenage fools they are they told me they didn't need a nap and promptly crashed a few hours later (approximately the time I had planned for them to wake up). Eh, whatever. Teenagers. I guess I still love them :)

While they were here we did a whoooooole bunch of hiking. Because it's free and we all love it! Nature! The kids got a little whiny - they prefer sitting on the couch drinking apple juice watching Octonauts to hiking, or grocery shopping, or riding in the car to any number of fun destinations, or really anything.

Stone Mountain is my go-to hike when guests visit. It's easy enough for anyone and you get to see an amazing waterfall that you can even slide down! The only drawback is the 250ish stairs you have to walk back up when you're done. That's the part that always makes me worry that my guests are cursing my name under thier breath and wishing their flight out had been cancelled. But they always walk away with gorgeous photos of the waterfall that they will cherish forever, so they can deal with it :)

The water was kind of cold, but so refreshing!

Millie is such an adventure gal. We bought her some "hiking" shoes and she loves them. She'll run her fastest and stop suddenly, drop down, and admire her shoes for a while. All while saying, "Soo, soo!"

We found a cool little fishing spot at the base of the mountain. The boys (including Kade) got really into fishing on this trip and had a contest to see who could catch the most by the time the week was up. I don't know what the numbers ended up at because fishing is... a lot of sitting around quietly. And the kids were not into that.

They are, apparently, into tasting river rocks.

The catch of the day!

Jonah holding the catch of the day! Somehow it looks even smaller in his hands, haha.

Porter here, is 6'7" and managed to sleep all squished up in the car like this on multiple occasions. Can you even wrap your head around how precious that is? He looks like a giant man-baby! Like you just want to tuck a blanket around him and give him a little kiss on the forehead. haha.

We also went to Hanging Rock because I'd been meaning to check it out for a while. A little more strenuous, depending on where you want to go, but the waterfalls we went to weren't too rough a hike and they were so pretty. But the actual hike out to the hanging rock, that was tough.

A hanging Porter at Hanging Rock, get it, get it??

Millie, just being all sweet.

Selfies with Uncle PorPie!

Then we went up to Mount Airy, because who doesn't love Mayberry? Sittin' on the porch drinking ice cold cherry coke - but really probably Cheerwine. Of which Jackson drank about 5 gallons while he was here.

After a while I think she got worried that we would never actually let her out of jail, she started shaking the bars and yelling nervously. It was adorable.

More fishing! This time at a local pond about 10 minutes from our house.

Since Jack doesn't take selfies I had to take pictures of him. He didn't seem to like it, but he doesn't have to look at them if he doesn't want to.

So, guys, that was a photo dump of the end of July! Wasn't it great? Don't you wish you lived here? Don't you long to hear the deafening screech of the cicada, 24 hours a day? Wouldn't you love to come inside from taking out the trash to discover 13 new mosquito bites? Don't you wish you could feel the sweat pool on the back of your neck and run down your back only 3 minutes after you've stepped out the door?*

Because that's what Millie was going through in this picture. That day was SO incredibly humid and hot, we were only outside for about an hour and both kids were the sweatiest I've ever seen them. Millie's little curls were just dripping. Poor kids! Luckily we didn't stay as long as the guys and rushed home to drink some water and eat popsicles.

But yeah, that's it. Luckily I have a lot more catching up to do, so hang tight! You've got more blog reading in your future. Enjoy your low humidity and constant threat of wildfires! (nervous face emoticon)

* Funny thing is, this are probably all the things I'll think fondly on whenever we leave.
