Woops!

Something very important was brought to my attention this morning--

I forgot all about "Write Wednesday."

I'm so sorry. So today will be "Catch-back-up Thursday." :)

Here's a little something I've been mulling over in my head, and I wanted to try it out a little bit:

She was beautiful, but it wasn't as important yet. Her smile filled up an entire room. Quiet, humble, gentle.
And in those days, she was content to be so. Quiet, and humble, and gentle. There were no cell phones, no social networks. At least not that she cared anything for. Her happiness was in being with people she loved. She liked going for walks to the park, making up picnic lunches, and playing her baby brother. She was outside in the sunshine, most of the time anyway. She loved all the pretty flowers growing in the yard. She loved to pick them, put them in a blue cup and set them on the table. She really knew how to brighten up a room. Her life was lived as if she didn't have a care in the world.

Back then anyway.

Back before the world showed up on her front porch. The world brought with it things of minimal worth, but of great desire. It brought her a cell phone, text messaging, picture messaging. It introduced her to the internet and all of its social networking commodities. It showed her all the beautiful people of the world and told her she could be like them. It told stories of late-night parties and dancing, money and fine clothes. It said these things were fun, these were what she wanted from life.

Now. Now this girl is still very beautiful, but is tired too often. She smiles, but she cries a lot too. She is still quiet, humble, gentle--but with the white noise of last night's loud party ringing in her ears. She still loves being with the people she loves, in person and via text, email, wall-post, instant message, etc... Mostly all at the same time. She loves a lot of people now; hmmm--too many.
She still walks to the park, with some coaxing--but not before she grabs her phone. Picnic lunches are a rarity, but they remind everyone of those old days, and there are smiles nonetheless. Still plays with her brother, hopefully that will never change. She still loves to be in the sunshine, tries her best to get a good solid tan. She still loves flowers--the ones that come wrapped in cellophane with a big red ribbon and a note attached. She proudly displays those, too. Though no one else could really be as proud.
And she still knows how to brighten up a room--but the thought to do so doesn't come very often anymore.

Lots of things have changed, you know. Its a bittersweet memory of back then.
But she's still the same old girl inside,

And we all still love her.

And here's me at 11 years old, pretending I was a world famous (french?) writer--
